45 Pieces of Advice

saw this in a friend's facebook post that he has 'shared' from somewhere else and really liked these little pieces of advice. so, enjoy.

I've bolded my favorite ones.....

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step..

3. Life is too short - enjoy it..

4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and

family will.

5. Pay off your credit cards every month.

6. You don't have to win every argument. Stay true to yourself.

New room inspiration

Soo since I'm moving into a new apartment, and I've had the same bedding/decor since I was a junior in undergrad, I thought it was time for a little update.

This picture from Pinterest is my inspiration.

I just love the white bedding, colorful quilt and accent pillows.. Im not sure if I will be painting or not though..

Here is the quilt that I bought yesterday at SteinMart..now just need to get a white comforter.

Unfortunately they were out of the shams but I was able to get one of the accent pillows that matches the fabric of the quilt. And I'm going to have my mom make me some shams once I go get the fabric.

I'm liking the ruffle pillows: but I like the cute bows too!

I also plan on making something like one of these for my wall: with paint chip colors to match the colors in the quilt:

love this idea for a dry-erase calendar

I also like this easy idea..spray painting a cheap wire trash can, turning it upside down to make a cute little table!

And of course, I need a cute lamp for my bedside table.. will probably be able to find a cute one at Tj Maxx or some place like that!

Can't wait to see it all come together, and i'll be sure and post pics when its all done.

What's been goin' on?

A lot of things have happened since I last blogged.

1. I finished my fieldwork placement in Newport News the day after Thanksgiving.

2. I had 2 job interviews and got offers from both facilities but have chosen one in Chesapeake, Va- which is about 5 hours from home

so legit :)

3. My classmate/friend and I signed a lease for a great apartment in downtown Norfolk, VA...seriously love it! I'll have to post pics once we move in! I'm so excited bc is it just 2 blocks from Norfolk's main mall :) ...could be dangerous!

4. I presented my graduate project, had my pinning ceremony, hooding ceremony and graduation this weekend. So I officially have my Masters in Occupational Therapy :))

A new adventure

Well, I'm in a new city now.
I packed up a Budget truck and my car on Wednesday evening and left (not so bright and) EARLY on Thursday morning to head east to Newport News. We got here around 11am yesterday.
You may wonder why I am here, or you may not care but I will tell you anyways :) just in case you dont remember from a previous post. I will begin my LAST 3-month Fieldwork placement on Monday at an Inpatient Rehab facility here in Newport news. So, I will be 'working' full time, unpaid...actually I am paying to work here really. But yeah, that's why I am here.

I went to the clubhouse to 'check in' to my apartment yesterday while my mom drove the budget truck to my apartment. She quickly called and told me NOT to sign the lease for that apartment yet because there was a tag from the Sheriff's office on the door knob and a ton of junk on the patio. Clearly, I was confused. I told the lady in the leasing office about this and she called maintenance and they said there was no way the apt would be ready for me to move in yesterday. I was getting angry- you would too if you knew all the hassle they put me through to even get the apartment. So then she said she couldn't do anything about that until the manager got there...soo we waited around for a little while. LUCKILY there was another 2bd/2bathroom apartment open in the next building over that we could have. SOO I signed the lease for that one and we began to move our stuff in! Mom moved the huge moving truck in the grass close to the apartment and when it was time to move it back to the parking lot we realized it was stuck in the mud (they had recently had lots of rain here!)....soo then we had to have a tow truck come and pull the truck out of the mud- looking back its hilarious- yesterday, not so much. But we made it, and got everything moved in!!
We dropped the truck off and picked up mom's rental car and she and my cousin headed back to Roanoke.
That's when I had my little evening-long break down. Man was I a crybaby last night. I spent the whole evening feeling so sad and lonely. This is the furthest I have ever been from home, and the first time that Jenn and I have really lived apart. Its just a hard adjustment, esp since my roommate hasnt moved in and won't be here until tomorrow. Also, didn't help that I had no internet/cable set up yet. Luckily I had a couple movies from Netflix to fall asleep to. (finally watched Charlie St. Cloud- LOVE!)

This morning I woke up at 8:00- that's pretty much my idea of 'sleeping in' lately. I spent most of the morning finishing unpacking the kitchen stuff and hanging up my clothes. Also, spent the morning WAITING... waiting for the maintenance men to deliver/install our washer and dryer, and to fix out storage room door. AND waiting for the person from Cox to come set up our cable/internet.

The person from Cox was supposed to come between 12-2 so when he hadn't come by 2 i decided to give him a call. He proceeded to tell me that I had set up cable/internet through the power company and that since there was a work order already in progress for my address, he could not come set up internet and cable through cox. I told him that I had never set up int/cable through anyone else...to which he said "well you must have bc they have your information and everything"....CLICK.
I was not so happy about that. Had to come to Starbucks to use the wifi to look up the power company's information. Called them. and they could not find any information under my name/email/ssn/address for a cable/internet service... I called the guy from Cox back and got it straightened out that it was not me (weird, who ever set it up has the same last name as me so thats why he assumed it was me). But he said he would try to come by today and set it up for me...still waiting to hear back from him if he'll be able to fit me in.

Tonight I am looking forward to having dinner with my roommate from JMU- luckily she lives in Newport News so I will have a familiar face around :) that should help with the transition!
Then tomorrow, I'm heading to New Bern, NC for a wedding--and I will get to see my sis, Katie and Erica there :) Will be staying the night in NC with them and heading back here early on Sunday.

Should be a fun weekend :)

long time, no talk

Its been oh so long since I have posted here! I have posted more recently on my OT blog because I am now in the field full-time for my level 2 fieldwork. I have been at a health and rehab center (aka nursing home) since the middle of May and am absolutely loving it. I never thought I would love the facility, the other therapist and the patients as much as I do! I only have three more weeks left which is just crazy! It is going by so quickly and I'm realizing how much I will miss everyone when I leave!! I am definitely going to apply for a job with the company after I graduate in December. They have facilities all over Virginia and in North Caroline. As of now I am thinking that I will work in Roanoke and live at home until I pass my Board exam and then I hope to move to Charlotte, NC. I am not sure if I will work full time or do PRN (where you work whenever a facility needs an extra therapist). PRN Therapist make good money; my supervisor said PRN's in the company that I am at now make $45/hr but there are no benefits. I am thinking this would be smart to do at least until I pass my boards so I can have time to study and work at the same time. This also is good because I can stay on my parent's insurance for another year, so I wouldn't need the benefits of a full time position.
I am really trying not to stress out about it now, because the GREAT thing about Occupational Therapy (or any healthcare profession really) is that I can get a job in any city/state I want to go to.

Anyways, after I finish up at this placement, I am moving to Newport News, VA (by Va Beach) for another level 2 fieldwork and will be there for 3 months. While I am really looking forward to going someplace new, I am a little nervous about the placement. It will be totally different than where I am now- and since I just love this so much, it makes me nervous about how I will enjoy being there. I am hopeful that I will love it and I KNOW it will be a great learning experience. As of now I am not sure whether I will be placed on the TBI or the SCI unit, but I would love either.

Anyways, enough about fieldwork!!

This summer it seems like all of my weekends are taken up with wedding and/or baby shower things. I have been to 2 wedding showers, and a bachelorette party weekend in Charlotte. This coming weekend I have a baby shower and a lingerie party to attend. The next weekend I have a bridal luncheon and was invited to another bachelorette party in DC, then the following weekend is one of my best friends wedding weekend, and then two weeks after that I have a wedding in North Carolina....it gets exhausting for real.

Anyways...we'll see if I can get back into blogging. je ne sais pas.

Does it get any cuter?

The puppies are growing so fast!! I only see them every weekend and its crazy how much they change in just a week! I'm still obsessed with our precious they are!!
