Through the windshield

I am going to start looking at life through the windshield,
and not the rear view mirror.

Too often things from my past, people from my past creep up into my mind and I could play the "what if" game with myself all day long.
I feel like I focus on what I could have done, should have done, would have done differently... but who's to say that would have made any difference?

I always get pointed to Little Texas' song "What Might Have Been"

"I try not to think about what might have been,
Cause that was then,
and we have taken different roads.
We can't go back again,
there's no use giving in,
and there's no way to know, what might have been"

so very true:
No sense in wasting my time thinking about what might have been, because there is a reason things worked out the way they did...

and this quote:

"There's a luggage limit to every passenger on a flight.
The same rules apply to your life.
You must eliminate some baggage before you can fly"
— Rosalind Johnson

Time for me too let go of some baggage...the "what ifs", the "coulda shoulda woulda's"...
Time for me to start looking out through the windshield..so that I can fully enjoy all the exciting things that are in store for me
I know that great things are coming and lately I have been getting really excited for the changes that are going to be taking place this fall, new opportunities, new faces, new school, new town, new classes, new professors, new classmates- I'm looking forward to it all!

As I'm writing this- I realize that I need to start enjoying the present as well, make the most of everyday- it's all we are given- I'm not promised a tomorrow.
Why is it so difficult to be content in the stage of life I am currently in.
Why does the majority of my thoughts drift to the things of the past in the past and how things used to be or jump to the things of the future thinking of how things will be?

Gotta make an effort to change my mindset and start enjoying life in the NOW instead of what has been and what is to come..

I think you nailed it when you said you have to change your mindset. That is so true.

It's hard to move forward when you're always looking back. And there's absolutely NOTHING you can do about the past or the future.

When I start trying to control things, or worry about what I should have done - I remember that I have absolutely no control at all. The only thing I can control is how I act, what I say, and how I treat people. And I can only do that TODAY.

I trust God to lead my down the right path in life and try to always do the right thing! Everyone trips every now and then - but if you trust in him, you know the hiccups are only to teach you something.

I just wanted to stop in and say hi and tell you I completly agree with your post. I too find myself in the same boat of wondering all the time about what if i did something differently. Life is short and we shouldnt waste any of it worrying on the past.

I like that analogy! and I think it's time I started looking through the windshield, too.
