I mentioned back in December that I was getting a new book- called A Man Worth Waiting For! It finally came this past week and I have started reading it. It talks a lot about Boaz ( the ideal man -in the book of Ruth) and compares his qualities to a "Bozo"...
[thought I would keep a list here and update it as I continue reading]
is your man a BOAZ or a BOZO? (or men, which are you?)
Boaz:
-acts honorably
-respects you
-respects the law
-will handle your "baggage" with care
-notices more than just beauty
-has noble character
-loves in actions as well as words
-inspires respect from those around him
-encourages you to obey God
-knows how to love long-term
-exhibits the three I's: Identity in Christ; Integrity in Life and Initiative
-protects women physically and emotionally
-protects your honor and purity
-provides for you
-is a persistent pursuer
-loves you in a way that shows his feelings
-is a prepared partner
-faces his troubles with God's help to overcome them.
-keeps urges under control
-is able to postpone present pleasure for future fulfillment
-runs the "race" by your side, doesn't side-track you, make your slow down or turn around
-will never sacrifice his moral purity
-doesn't abuse people or substances
-has a growing relationship with God
-controls his emotions
-can rise above disappointment and frustrations with peace and faith
-notices the needs of others
-willing to serve alongside you
-tolerant of flaws
-has a humble, open heart and mind
-works to the best of his ability
-doesn't fear his tears, or others'
-doesn't prolong his adolescence
-will be passionate about God's accomplishments through man and pursuits with eternal value
-know what's important and invests his time in it
-surrounds himself with good company
-
Bozo:
-their talk doesn't match their walk
-lusts instead of loves
-doesn't respect purity (wants to conquer and rob women of purity)
-measures a woman by her looks
-keeps bad company that encourages their baser instincts
-are dangerous
-are deceptive
-lies...especially to get what they want
-disregards consequences
-doesn't really listen to what you have to say
-lacks the character mandatory for long-term, committed love
-appear charming but play with your emotions
-expect you to prove your love
-use you then move one
-love you when they feel like it
-encourage you to disobey God
-can make you feel 2ft tall
-loves a woman in whatever way serves him- not you
-give into their hungers no matter what the cost
-controlled by his emotions- acts irrationally
-feels entitled, gets angry when he doesn't get his way
-doesn't notice other people's needs
-is critical of others
-has a high opinion of himself
-always has excuses
-lacks integrity
-will have reckless enthusiasm for man's accomplishments and worldly pursuits
-can talk the talk but his behavior never measures up
-are all about themselves, their desires, their entertainment and their goals in life
-surrounds himself with other bozos

My "man" is ABSENT. Boys aren't worth the trouble right now. The only thing I'd alter under the BOAZ is respects the law because sometimes, you just gotta break the rules to live a little.
These lists are pretty intense!
ha, yeah they are very intense.. and I'm not even halfway through the book yet..there's more to come.
amen to the ABSENT part- where have all the good men goooonneee?
